Spubi's 5 - Bee hives

If you have a choice, you're spoilt for choice.

It starts with the name. Is it called a bee hive or a bee box, or is it rather a apiary? In the end, everyone knows what is meant by all these terms - the cosy home of our honey bees. If you are a budding beekeeper or bee friend and want to get to grips with the subject of "bee housing", your head will whiz before the bees do. There are many different types of hive systems and even more approaches to the way bees are kept, so we have compiled a small but fine selection for you.

The professional not only differentiates in the condition of the hive, but also in the format. From Zander to Deutsch Normalmaß to Langstroth, everything is possible. Each type of bee box has its advantages and disadvantages and there is no such thing as THE right bee box. As a layman you start to differentiate between the obvious and to give you a rough overview, here are our Spubi's 5 bee hives.

  1. Hives made of hard foam

  2. Zeidler-style log hives

  3. Beehives made of straw

  4. Reed hives

  5. Hives made of wood

We hope you got a first overview. If you are not sure which type of hive you would like to choose, why don't you start with an insect hotel for the wild guests in your garden?

  • Insect hotel for wild bees
